Quality Score Troubleshooting

When quality will not climb, separate cutting errors from sewing errors before you grind the same seam again.

What this solves

Stuck quality scores feel personal, but Dressmaker usually points to a specific system: grain, sewing control, style tags, or budget. Grinding the same seam without a diagnosis wastes fabric and time. This checklist separates cutting caps from sewing mistakes, then reminds you that delivery dissatisfaction is not always sew percentage. Fix the right axis instead of repeating the wrong one. A calm checklist beats rage-restarts. Grain, sewing control, tags, and budget each fail differently, and mixing them into one vague frustration makes practice inefficient. Name the failing axis out loud, change only that axis, then retest on the simplest dress that still teaches the lesson.

Step by step

  1. 1. Ask the grain question first

Did every cut piece show a green outline? If not, remake the dress or the bad panels before touching the machine again. A grain cap looks identical to a sewing failure until you check.

  2. 2. If grain was green, slow the sew

Reduce W/S speed, pause on corners, and use A/D taps. Enable Sewing Assist for one clean pass to isolate whether control feel was the issue. Restart early if the seam is already ruined.

  3. 3. Check style tags and budget next

If sew percentage looks fine but the client is still unhappy, reopen the commission tags and spend total. A mismatched silhouette or empty accessory budget can tank satisfaction without a red stitch line.

  4. 4. Change one variable per retry

Do not alter fabric, silhouette, and sew style all at once. Change grain, or speed, or tags, then retest. Controlled retries teach faster than chaotic ones.

Common mistakes

  • Repeating sewing practice on a dress that never had green cuts.
  • Ignoring budget and tags because the stitch line looked centered.
  • Changing five settings between attempts and learning nothing.
  • Finishing a 40 percent seam instead of restarting when the pass is already lost.
